How it works

One VIN in.
Everything on record out.

Three steps, about 4 seconds, one free account. Here is exactly what happens between pasting a VIN and reading the report.

Step one

Start with the VIN, or the plate.

Seventeen characters that follow the car for life, through every sale, state and repaint. No VIN in front of you? The plate and its state resolve to one.

  • Paste it straight from the listing page
  • A plate and state work when the listing hides the VIN
  • Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for

  • Driver's door jambOn the build sticker inside the frame
  • The listing pageAny listing with nothing to hide prints it

Step two

Read the free check.

The whole report comes back laid out section by section, with the free parts filled in and every paid figure named, counted and withheld. You always see what you would be paying for before you pay.

  • The decode, the recall count and the record count, free
  • Every section in place, so nothing is a surprise later
  • Unlimited, on as many cars as you are weighing up

Everything without a lock is free, on as many cars as you like. The locked rows are named and counted so you can see what $5 buys before you spend it.

Step three

$5 fills it in.

One charge for that one car, nothing recurring. Every figure appears: the price history, the odometer trail, title and accident records, and what to offer with the words to use. The PDF is yours forever.

Behind the check

What happens in those 4 seconds

Four lookups run at once the moment you submit, and the report is assembled from whatever each one returns. Nothing is written by hand and nothing is an opinion.

  • The VIN is decoded

Year, make, model, trim, engine and drivetrain, read from the manufacturer's own build records rather than whatever the listing typed.

  • 68.4M listings searched

Every listing we track across 40K+ dealer sites, matched to this exact VIN: each price it wore, each lot it sat on, each odometer snapshot.

  • The federal record pulled

NHTSA recall campaigns, crash-test stars and owner complaints, plus EPA fuel figures, straight from the government feeds.

  • Comparables priced

Cars of the same year, trim and drivetrain within 250 miles, plotted as a real spread so a fair price is a band you can see, not a number you are told.

Still wondering

Do I need an account to start?

No. Type the VIN, read the record. You only sign in when you want a report saved to you, and only pay when you want the figures.

Can I check a car without the VIN?

Yes. Enter the plate and its state and we resolve it to the VIN. If you are standing at the car, the VIN is printed at the base of the windshield and inside the driver's door jamb.

How current is what I see?

Listings and prices are refreshed continuously from the dealer sites we crawl, and the government feeds are pulled live at check time. The report shows the record as it stands the moment you run it.

What happens if the record is empty?

You see that for free before paying, and if you do buy and we cannot return history, the charge is released the same business day. You never pay for an empty report.
